Aneesah Morrow amassed 14 points (4-of-9 FGs, 5-of-7 FTs), four rebounds, and one three-pointer in Connecticut’s loss to Golden State on Sunday.
After scoring in double figures in consecutive games, the rookie forward found her way into the Sun’s starting lineup on Sunday. She tallied another double-digit scoring performance, although the blowout loss likely played a part in her receiving just 16 minutes of game action, which prevented her from even more production. It should be noted that Morrow’s first start coincided with Marina Mabrey’s first missed game of the season. It’s possible this production could be short-lived if Morrow can’t hold on to this role when Mabrey returns.

Kamilla Cardoso tallied 10 points (5-of-12 FGs), 15 rebounds, three assists and one block in the loss to the Aces on Sunday.
Cardoso landed her 12th double-double of the season on Sunday in 31 minutes of game action. While she shot the ball inefficiently, she made enough to finish as one of five Chicago starters to score in double figures. Her greatest impact, however, came on the glass, where she collected seven offensive boards and grabbed eight on the defensive end en route to tying a season-high in total rebounds. The sophomore center will look to add to her double-double count on Tuesday when the Sky face the Aces again.
Highlights: Clark returns, Thomas comes up clutch
Relive the best moments from Wednesday's WNBA action, which saw the Golden State Valkyries spoil Caitlin Clark's return to action, Alyssa Thomas score a career-high 29 points for the Phoenix Mercury and more.
  • Rachel Banham totaled 12 points (5-of-12 FGs), four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two three-pointers in Sunday’s loss to the Aces.
Banham tied a team-high in points on Sunday and was one of three players to make a three-pointer. The veteran guard also contributed as a passer and, additionally, utilized active hands on the defensive end to collect a couple of steals. Sunday’s performance against the Aces was far from one of Banham’s best of the season, but it stood out on a night in which the Sky struggled on the offensive end as a team.
  • CHI G #10
Sevgi Uzun amassed 10 points (4-of-9 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), three rebounds, six assists and one steal on Sunday in the Sky’s loss to the Aces.
Uzun made her third start of the season on Sunday and set a couple of season-highs against the Aces. On 44.4 percent shooting, she reached double figures in points for the first time all season and concluded as one of five Chicago players to score at least 10 points. She also utilized a strong third quarter, when she tallied three dimes, to set a new season-high in assists. The status of injured Ariel Atkins (back) for Tuesday’s rematch against Las Vegas could impact Uzun’s role and playing time going forward.
  • Angel Reese (back) will not play on Sunday against the Aces.
Reese had been suspended by the Sky for the first half of Sunday’s game against the Aces for what the team phrased as detrimental comments. Before the second half of the matchup with the Aces, she was ruled out with a back injury, leaving her sidelined for two straight games. The Sky will face the Aces again on Tuesday before their season finale on Thursday against the Liberty. Reese’s status for the two upcoming games is yet to be determined.
  • Sevgi Uzun, Rachel Banham, Michaela Onyenwere, Elizabeth Williams and Kamilla Cardoso to start Sunday vs. the Aces.
Uzun will make her third start of the season on Sunday as the Sky look to avoid back-to-back losses. The second-year guard is averaging 2.9 points and 2.3 assists across 22 games this season, and will likely assume lead ball-handling duties in a Chicago frontcourt that’s flooded with injuries. She’ll replace Ariel Atkins (back) in the starting lineup, who is averaging 13.1 points, 3.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game thus far.
  • Megan Gustafson, A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young and Kierstan Bell will start Sunday against the Sky.
Gustafson will make her first start of the season, replacing NaLyssa Smith (concussion) in the Aces’ opening lineup. Gustafson began the season sidelined with a leg injury, but returned in early July and has posted averages of 2.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.3 blocks in the 17 games she’s appeared in. With her promotion to the starting unit on Sunday, Kiah Stokes figures to be a reserve player who could see more action as the Aces look to win their 14th straight game and reclaim the second spot in the WNBA standings.
  • Dearica Hamby registered 15 points (6-of-15 FGs, 2-of-5 FTs), eight rebounds, four assists, one steal, one block and one three-pointer in Sunday’s victory over the Wings.
Hamby only needs 25 minutes of game action to stuff the stat sheet and provide a great impact on Sunday. The veteran forward shot inefficiently but tallied a three-pointer to finish as one of the Sparks’ top two scorers on the afternoon. She also finished only a couple of rebounds shy of a double-double, while tying a team-high in assists. With the insignificant amount of minutes played against Dallas, Hamby should be rested enough and ready to produce against the Mercury on Tuesday as the Sparks continue to battle for the eighth and final playoff spot.
  • Azurá Stevens added 13 points (5-of-11 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals and one three-pointer in the win over the Wings on Sunday.
Stevens was one of six Los Angeles players to reach double figures in scoring on Sunday, marking the first time she’d tallied double-digit points since August 29. The eighth-year forward had struggled over her previous four games, shooting 7-of-27 from the field and not having finished better than 50.0 percent in either game — Sunday’s 45.5 percent shooting was a step in the right direction. Additionally, Stevens hit the glass hard en route to her ninth double-double of the season, while also making her usual contributions on the defensive end. She’ll look to log another strong performance against the Mercury on Tuesday as the Sparks try to keep their playoff hopes alive.
  • Julie Alleman totaled 21 points (8-of-8 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), one rebound, four assists, five steals and three three-pointers in the win over the Wings.
In one of the Sparks’ most important games of the season, Allemand put forth a stellar performance against the Wings. The third-year guard didn’t get many opportunities to score, but made the most of her chances by going without a miss on her eight shot attempts. Three of her makes came from beyond the arc, as she scored in double figures for the first time since the Sparks’ most recent meeting against the Wings on August 15. She led Los Angeles in scoring and assists while collecting a season-high in steals along the way. Allemand will look to have another positive impact on Tuesday against the Mercury as the Sparks try to stay alive in the playoff race.
  • Maddy Siegrist totaled 13 points (6-of-14 FGs), four rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and one three-pointer on Sunday in the Wings’ loss to the Sparks.
Siegrist’s double-figure scoring performance on Sunday marked her 11th consecutive game with at least 12 points scored — she got to this number despite limited three-point production and no points from the free-throw line, but still finished as one of three Dallas players to register at least 10 points. The third-year forward contributed some defensive statistics, too, to help make her final stat line look a little richer. And although Siegrist’s Sunday outing was an unspectacular one, she’ll have a chance to bounce back on Thursday against the Mercury in the Wings’ season finale.
