As it turns out, Garic Wharton won’t get a chance to build off the success he experienced in 2012 and 2013... well, at least at Arizona he won’t.
According to the Arizona Republic, the speedy wide receiver has, for reasons unknown, decided to transfer out of Rich Rodriguez‘s football program. Why Wharton made the decision to leave with summer camp right around the corner is unknown.
As Wharton graduated from UA last month, however, he would be eligible to play immediately in 2014 if he transfers to another FBS school. Regardless of where the Las Vegas product lands, he’ll have one season of eligibility remaining.
After catching no passes as a redshirt freshman in 2011, Wharton caught a combined 36 passes the past two years (19 in 2012, 17 in 2013) for 55 yards (291 last year, 261 the year before) for four touchdowns (two each season).
Wharton was a three-star member of the Wildcats’ 2010 recruiting class, rated as the No. 50 receiver in the country and the No. 2 player at any position in the state of Nevada. He opted for the desert over offers from, among others, Nebraska, Oregon and Tennessee.
