You all know the numbers. 8-16 overall, 3-13 in the Big Ten, 0-2 in qualifying for bowl games.
Regardless of how you want to spin the numbers or the situation, there’s little doubt that Rich Rodriguez‘s seat at Michigan is the hottest one in America. And, as if he needed any reminder of the fire burning down below, a former UM has come through with an update on RichRod’s hot-seat status.
Speaking to the Detroit News ahead of his charity basketball game, Braylon Edwards took time out of his busy schedule of dropping passes for the New York Jets to drop a little shot at Rodriguez’s tenuous hold on the head coaching job at his alma mater.
“He’s past the hot seat, and he has to make it work,” Edwards said. “If he can’t -- me being one of the alumni guys -- I want someone that can make it work. We’ve been patient. If it doesn’t go right this year, we’ll have to find a guy that can make it work with that winged helmet.”
Edwards has not exactly been a huge supporter of Rodriguez throughout his two years in Ann Arbor, but it’s yet another clear indication that all is not right with the Wolverines, and the howls from former players will only continue to get louder if/when his team gets off to a slow in what is shaping up to be a make-or-break season for the Wolverines.
