Not only has Florida lost one of its most outstanding defensive players for the remainder of the season, they’ve lost him for the remainder of his collegiate eligibility as well.
Dominique Easley, head coach Will Muschamp confirmed Monday, has played his last game as a Gator as he will make himself available for the April NFL draft. The defensive tackle tore his right ACL earlier this month and had already been ruled out for the remainder of the 2013 season.
A tweet Easley sent out the day his ACL tear was confirmed intimated that he was finished in Gainesville, so Muschamp’s pronouncement doesn’t exactly come as a surprise.
The ACL tear was the second of Easley’s career. A tear in his left knee in 2011 put a premature end to that season as well.
The lineman started 23 games the past two seasons before starting the first three in 2013. He finishes his Gators career with 72 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, a blocked punt and a fumble recovery.
