A member of Ohio State’s Top-10 2015 recruiting class who was thought to be a potential contributor immediately may instead have a serious injury with which to deal.
In a tweet posted to his personal Twitter account Saturday night, Dre’Mont Jones wrote that "[s]adly I believe I just tore my ACL tonight.” Jones is a member of the Cleveland St. Ignatius basketball team, and he sustained what was described by the high school’s principal as a serious leg injury five minutes into a game earlier tonight.
Even as he’s not yet on campus and with the team, Jones’ loss could potentially be a rather significant one for the reigning national champs.
IF Jones tore his ACL, it’s another blow at DE where depth is an issue heading into 2015. He was a guy many thought would play early.

A four-star member of this year’s recruiting class, the 6-4, 265-pound Jones was rated as the No. 14 strongside defensive end in the country; the No. 7 player in the state of Ohio at any position; and the No. 170 player overall according to Rivals.com. Jones had a top three of OSU, Michigan and Notre Dame before verbally committing to the Buckeyes in June of last year.
The commitment wasn’t much of a surprise, though.
“This is my third time coming here and like I said before in around April [playing for the Buckeyes] has been a childhood dream for me,” the defensive lineman said at the time, “so I decided to make that childhood dream an actual reality and just come here.”
