The BCS has been an absolute mess this year, but it’s always funny to watch certain coaches be interviewed the day after the BCS bowls are selected. Sometimes you get a “well, that’s the system we’re in” kind of answer; other times it’s “we need a change NOW!”
Usually, it depends on who got included, and who got left out.
Chris Petersen and his No. 7 Boise State Broncos got left out this time around. Not that it’s overly surprising. The Broncos didn’t win their conference and at-large spots are hard enough to come by for a non-AQ team.
Still, Petersen isn’t happy.
“The whole thing needs to be changed, there’s no question about it,” Petersen said. “… I think (change) is coming, I really do.
“Everybody is just very tired of the BCS. I think that’s the bottom line. Everybody is frustrated. Everybody doesn’t really know what to do anymore. It doesn’t make sense to anybody. I don’t think anybody is happy anywhere.”
Boise State was among four BCS Top 10 teams who were left out of BCS bowls, along with No. 6 Arkansas, No. 8 Kansas State and No. 9 South Carolina. Of the four, Kansas State has the an equal or greater gripe than the Broncos. K-State was passed over by the Sugar Bowl in favor of No. 11 Virginia Tech, who hasn’t beaten any Top 25 teams this season.
“Why are we even voting if they’re all left out of games like that?” Petersen said. “It doesn’t make any sense. … I don’t know who it makes sense to. I haven’t heard anybody say, ‘This is pretty good.’ Everybody goes, ‘This is really bad.’ ”
