Kevin Wilson confirms Indiana interview, says no job offer

The reports from earlier today that Kevin Wilson interviewed for the coaching vacancy at Indiana turned out to be correct.

Whether or not the Oklahoma offensive coordinator becomes Bill Lynch‘s replacement remains to be seen, however.

Wilson told reporters that he did indeed interview with the Hoosiers today in Indianapolis, but he was not offered the job and there’s no timeline for the school to finalize their coaching search.

I talked to them,” the coordinator said according to the Daily Oklahoman. “We’ll see where it goes. Nothing’s final yet. ...

“I don’t think there’s any sense of rush, you know, both ways.”

The thought in coaching circles is that Wilson is the odds-on favorite to be offered the job at some point in the not-too-distant future, with some going so far as saying that it would be “a shock” if he’s not IU’s head coach in 2011.

We mentioned in an earlier post that Josh Heupel would be a potential replacement for Wilson if he takes the job. Another name floating around? Mark Mangino, Bob Stoops’ offensive coordinator in 2000 and 2001 before taking over the head coaching job at Kansas.

UPDATED 8:52 p.m. ET: Terry Hutchens of the Indianapolis Star tweets that “Kevin Wilson will be named the next Indiana football coach at a press conference Tuesday at 4 p.m.”
