Leach not worried about finding another job

The last we really heard from Mike Leach, the former Texas Tech head coach was defending himself against accusations in the whole Adam James imbroglio. It was, as you recall, those accusations that led to the word “former” being attached to his name.

Since that interview at the end of December, however, we’ve heard nothing from The Pirate. Until now.

Speaking to Joe Rose of WQAM in Miami via SportsRadioInterviews.com, Leach said he wasn’t concerned about the accusations of mistreating a player keeping him from getting another coaching job. And, in the process, took yet another veiled shot -- our emphasis added -- at Tech for the way his dismissal was handled.

“You know I don’t worry very much,” Leach told Rose. “I try to do the best I can, be passionate about what you are doing, do the best you can and see where it takes you.

“At the years at Tech we won 20 games in two years and had the highest graduation rate in the nation at any public institution. You know administratively they had other agendas that went other directions and certainly that will unfold.

“But no, I am excited about football and the opportunity to coach again in the near future. I am just enjoying being with my family and being in Key West.”

Leach added that he’s not the least bit concerned about how he’s perceived by others in the aftermath of his highly-publicized dismissal.

“That probably goes both positive and negative. I don’t really pay a great deal of attention, I just try to do the best I can and try to do what I feel’s best. Hopefully folks will follow along and you know I have had a lot of people do it in a positive fashion.”

Here’s hoping that Leach gets back into the game sooner rather than later. His screwing at the hands of the Tech athletic department shouldn’t be the final note or lasting memory of his quirky career.
