If it gets dusty up in here, don’t blame me.
On their way home from a kicking camp in late July, Nebraska punter Sam Foltz, along with ex-Michigan State punter Mike Sadler, was killed in a car accident as they were driving through a severe thunderstorm in Wisconsin. Additionally, LSU placekicker Colby Delahoussaye, a backseat passenger in the Mercedes driven by Sadler, was injured in the crash that claimed the players’ lives.
The grief-stricken Cornhuskers honored their fallen punter before and during this year’s season opener, with Foltz’s nephews leading the team onto the field and the punting unit lining up for its first punt with just 10 players. Two weeks later, Nebraska’s Week 3 opponents extended their sympathies in a most visceral way and very vividly remembered the player who should’ve been wearing No. 27 this Saturday afternoon in Lincoln.#Oregon put flowers on the 27-yard line in honor of Sam Foltz.
