Ponder still... uh... pondering future

Before Christian Ponder went down with a season-ending shoulder injury, there was some question as to whether the Florida State quarterback would stay in Tallahassee for his senior season or leave for the NFL.

At the time, Bobby Bowden was dadgum certain the QB was leaning hard toward coming back, while the QB himself was not exactly that unequivocal, saying “there’s a chance of either way.”

Following the injury in early November, most of the talk regarding Ponder’s future had pretty much subsided.

Now, however, following Bowden’s official retirement, the questions regarding just what Ponder will do have resurfaced. And it’s pretty much status quo.

According to Ponder, Bowden’s “decision” to “retire” will have no bearing on what he will or won’t do. He stills plans to submit his paperwork to be evaluated by the NFL prior to the mid-January deadline for eligible underclassmen to declare, just like he had planned before the injury and before the departure of his head coach was a certainty.

And it still looks as if he will likely return for his senior season.

“I’m still going to file some paperwork (with the NFL draft advisory board) and see what they say, I think just out of curiosity,” he said. “I’m pretty set on coming back.”

Somewhere, there’s a gaggle of Seminole fans hoping and praying Ponder has not yet heard the news regarding Sam Bradford‘s 2009 season...
