Report: Vols Assistant Still Clinging To Job

Contrary to a report earlier today by ESPN.com, the Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting that embattled strength & conditioning coach Mark Smith is still employed by the university.Barely.The News Sentinel reported this afternoon that Smith was still in his office today, albeit surrounded by loaded packing boxes.When asked for a comment on his situation, Smith told the paper, “I’m still here."This morning, ESPN.com reported that Smith and head coach Lane Kiffin had decided to “part ways”. That report was apparently in response to a News Sentinel piece from yesterday in which the paper stated that Smith is under strict review and could very well be let go before the start of summer workouts.The paper did confirm a portion of the ESPN report, however, as they state that Aaron Ausmus is Kiffin’s top target to replace Smith if/when the current coach resigns/is fired/gets his ass booted out the door.
