Earlier this afternoon, Michigan officially announced that they had hired Brady Hoke away from San Diego State to become their new head coach.
Just a few hours later, it appears the Aztecs are set to pull the trigger on a replacement. And they won’t have to go very far to do it.
Speaking to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the agent for SDSU defensive coordinator Rocky Long expects his client to be named as the Aztecs’ new head coach on Wednesday. The agent also expects offensive coordinator Al Borges to head to Michigan for the same position on Hoke’s Wolverines coaching staff.
“I firmly believe Long will be the head coach and Al will go with Brady,” said Walter Sullivan, who represents Long and Borges. “Rocky will want to keep doing things the way they’ve been done. He’ll keep the continuity with the recruits.”
This would be Long’s second stint as a Div. 1-A head coach; in 11 years at New Mexico (1998-2008), Long had a 65-69 record.
