Expected to, possibly, contribute right away in Kentucky’s secondary, Mike Edwards will instead be sidelined as he continues dealing with a cranky shoulder.
In a tweet posted to his Twitter account, Edwards wrote “I just want to say I am getting surgery on my shoulder this upcoming month and won’t be able to play or enroll this semester.” The surgery and subsequent rehab means the safety will be sidelined for the entire 2014 season.
UK, for what it’s worth, has yet to officially address what if any issues may keep Edwards off the field in 2014.
Edwards was a four-star member of the Wildcats’ 2014 recruiting class, rated as the No. 26 safety in the country and the No. 13 player at any position in the state of Ohio. An injury to the same shoulder cost him a portion of his senior season in high school.
Despite the physical setback, Edwards tweeted that he’s still all-in when it comes to Big Blue Nation. “I am still a wildcat though,” the player wrote.
