Shrug life continues as Joey Bosa’s brother commits to Buckeyes

We don’t normally do much with recruiting here at CFT but this one’s a little bit different, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯...

Joey Bosa is an All-American defensive end at Ohio State, a junior who is widely expected to leave for the NFL early as he’s thought to be a near-lock for a top-five selection in next year’s draft. It (probably) won’t be the end of the Bosa line in Columbus, though, as the end’s younger brother, Nick Bosa, announced on Twitter Thursday that he has decided to follow in his sibling’s OSU footsteps and verbally committed to the Buckeyes.

In addition to OSU, the five-star 2016 prospect also held offers from, among others, Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Miami and Notre Dame. It’s long been expected, though, that Bosa would commit to the Buckeyes.

“Coach (Urban) Meyer was just happy when I told him,” Bosa told Rivals.com. “It was nothing interesting, though. I’m sure he expected it. A lot of people expected it. He was more relieved than anything else. My mom freaked out and was super excited, but the coaches were just happy.”

The younger Bosa is actually a more highly-rated prospect coming out high school at powerhouse Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas than his more celebrated brother. Joey Bosa was rated as the No. 4 strongside defensive end in the country; the No. 9 player at any position in the state of Florida; and the No. 47 player overall by Rivals.com, while his younger brother’s ratings go No. 2, No. 17 and No. 4 for the Class of 2016.

Nick Bosa, also pegged as a strongside end, is listed at 6-4, 255 pounds. His brother was listed at 6-5, 270 pounds coming out; his official bio now has him at 6-6, 275.

Joey Bosa contributed immediately to the Buckeyes’ defense; if he follows through on his verbal commitment, that same expectation will be placed on his brother.

UPDATED 2:46 p.m. ET: With the younger Bosa’s verbal commitment, and realizing we are still a little over six months away from National Signing day, all three of the major recruiting services -- Rivals, 247Sports, Scout -- now have Ohio State’s 2016 class rated as the No. 1 class in the country. No. 2 in all three services is LSU; Alabama (three), Florida State (three), Michigan State (one) and USC (two) all appear in at least one of that trio’s Top Five.
