Three coordinators among DeRuyter’s Fresno State hires

Less than a week after leading Texas A&M to a win as interim head coach, Tim DeRuyter is two-thirds of the way to completing his first Fresno State coaching staff.

The school announced in a press release that DeRuyter has officially hired six assistants, including all three coordinators. Former Utah offensive coordinator Dave Schramm will serve in the same role with the Bulldogs, as well as coach quarterbacks; Nick Toth was named defensive coordinator/linebackers coach; and Pete Germano was named special teams coordinator and defensive line coach.

Former USC and San Francisco 49ers standout defensive back Tim McDonald was named secondary coach, while Phil Earley (recruiting coordinator/offensive assistant) and Jordan Peterson (assistant defensive backs coach) filled the other two spots announced by the school.

“I am excited about the guys we are bringing in on our staff and am looking forward to having the team and the public get to know them,” DeRuyter said. “This group brings in a great deal of experience and I trust in all of them that they will help us further elevate this program to where we want to go.”

DeRuyter still has three openings on his first coaching staff to fill.
