Trojans tumble in AP poll

On the strength of their stunning 16-13 loss to Washington yesterday, Southern Cal has dropped from No. 3 to No. 12 in the latest Associated Press Top 25.

And the Huskies parlayed that upset into a spot in the poll, coming in at No. 24. It’s UW’s first appearance in the poll in six years.

Florida remained atop the AP poll, although they received one fewer first-place vote (55) than they did the week before. Receiving the other five votes were No. 2 Texas (2) and No. 3 Alabama (3).

Ole Miss (No. 4) and Penn State (No. 5) round out the Top Five.

USC wasn’t the biggest free-faller of the week as that honor goes to BYU. Following their home blowout loss to Florida State, the Cougars fell from No. 7 to No. 19. The Seminoles, meanwhile, reentered the Top 25 at No. 18.

Georgia Tech and Utah both dropped out of the Top 25, replaced by Washington and FSU.

The top non-automatic qualifier was Boise State, which moved from No. 10 to No. 8. TCU remained at No. 15.
