  • TB Starting Pitcher #61
Rays selected the contract of RHP Erasmo Ramírez from Triple-A Durham.
Ramírez signed a minor league deal with the Rays in June and returns to the majors for the first time this season. The 33-year-old posted a 5.87 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, and 29/8 K/BB ratio across 23 innings (nine appearances) while at Triple-A Durham.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #56
Diamondbacks recalled LHP Brandon Hughes from Triple-A Reno.
He’ll take the roster spot of Slade Cecconi, who was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. Hughes, 28, has appeared in three games for the Diamondbacks this season, registering a miserable 13.50 ERA, 2.62 WHIP and a 4/1 K/BB ratio over 2 2/3 innings of work. He’ll add a fresh arm to a depleted Diamondbacks’ bullpen.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #43
Diamondbacks optioned RHP Slade Cecconi to Triple-A Reno.
Cecconi was obliterated in Monday night’s loss to the Dodgers, giving up six runs over five innings against the Dodgers. He’ll try to work through his issues at the Triple-A level for the time being. Brandon Hughes was recalled from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move on Wednesday.
  • STL Shortstop #0
Masyn Winn went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Wednesday, lifting the Cardinals to a 5-4 victory over the Orioles.
Winn helped the Cardinals emerge victorious in a battle of the birds at rain-soaked Busch Stadium, supplying a pivotal insurance run with a seventh-inning homer off Orioles reliever Cole Irvin. It was his second round-tripper of the season and second time he’s gone deep in his last five contests.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
Gunnar Henderson singled and walked twice on Wednesday in the Orioles’ loss to the Cardinals.
Henderson kicked off the scoring with an RBI single in the third inning and wound up reaching base safely in three of his five plate appearances. The 22-year-old franchise cornerstone is in the midst of one of the best stretches of his young career, batting .280/.419/840 with four homers and one steal over his last seven games.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #64
Ryan Fernandez allowed one run in the ninth inning on Wednesday against the Orioles to record his first career save.
Fernandez got the call to protect a two-run lead in the final frame, after primary stopper Ryan Helsley picked up a save earlier in the day when Tuesday’s suspended contest resumed, and wound up narrowly escaping with the victory intact. The 25-year-old Rule 5 selection has absolutely held his own this season in his big-league debut.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #44
Kyle Gibson was charged with three runs (zero earned) on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Orioles.
Gibson’s afternoon came to a close after just four frames due to an extended rain delay. He gave up five hits, struck out three and didn’t hand out a free pass. All of the damage against him came in the third inning following a one-out fielding error by defensive wizard Nolan Arenado. He’ll face the Reds on Tuesday in his next outing.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #47
Despite diminished velocity, John Means tossed three scoreless innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.
Means was probably done for the day regardless after a lengthy rain delay halted play in the middle of the fourth inning, but it’s worth noting that the MASN broadcast showed him shaking his arm on several occasions and his average velocity was down to just 88.9 mph from 90.9 mph earlier this season. He allowed just one hit, issued a pair of walks and struck out one. There should be some clarity on his status at some point in the near future.
  • KC Shortstop #7
Bobby Witt Jr. went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI on Wednesday, leading the Royals to an 8-3 victory over the Tigers.
Witt did his damage in the late stages of the contest, tacking on a pair of insurance runs with a two-run double in the seventh inning. The 23-year-old fantasy superstar is on fire at the moment, batting .370 (10-for-27) with two homers and one steal over his last seven games.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #55
Cole Ragans recorded 12 strikeouts over six scoreless innings on Wednesday in a win over the Tigers.
Ragans held up his end of the bargain in a highly-anticipated matchup against Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, limiting Detroit’s offense to just one hit and three walks over six shutout frames. The 26-year-old emerging ace generated 15 swinging strikes and a near-elite 35 percent CSW, finishing with a season-high 12 punchouts. He’ll carry a solid 3.34 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 76/21 K/BB ratio across 62 innings (11 starts) into a road tilt on Tuesday against the division-rival Twins.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #29
Tarik Skubal allowed four runs over five innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Royals.
Fantasy managers were expecting a throwback pitcher’s duel in this one, but Skubal got in trouble right away on Wednesday afternoon as Kansas City struck for a pair of runs in the second inning before Nelson Velázquez took him deep for a fourth-inning solo shot. He finished with six strikeouts and only handed out a pair of free passes. He’ll bring a stellar 2.25 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 72/10 K/BB ratio across 60 innings (10 starts) into a favorable home matchup on Tuesday against the Pirates.
