  • NYY Starting Pitcher #65
Nestor Cortes was charged with three runs over seven innings on Thursday in a loss to the Dodgers.
Cortes gave up third-inning homers to Nick Allen and Tyler Nevin, which accounted for all of the damage against him in this one, but didn’t get any run support from New York’s offense. The 29-year-old lefty will bring a serviceable 3.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 32/5 K/BB ratio across 36 innings (six starts) into a road tilt on Tuesday against the Orioles.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #49
Dodgers activated RHP Blake Treinen off the 15-day injured list.
Treinen is back as anticipated, which is good news. The bad news is the right-hander returns while Evan Phillips is placed on the injured list with a hamstring strain. Now that Treinen is back in the fold, he could see save chances in the coming weeks with Phillips unavailable.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #59
Dodgers placed RHP Evan Phillips on the 15-day injured list with a hamstring strain.
This is a substantial loss to the Dodgers’ bullpen and for fantasy managers who roster Phillips. The right-hander will be out of action for at least two weeks, and managers will want to make sure to follow for further updates on his status. Blake Treinen was activated off the injured list in the corresponding transaction, and he’s someone who could see save chances with Phillips out.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #19
Diamondbacks activated RHP Ryne Nelson off the 15-day injured list.
Nelson is back to make a start Sunday against the Padres. The right-hander ended up missing the minimum amount of time while dealing with a bruise on his right elbow. Nelson was shaky in his starts prior to the injury, and fantasy managers should probably look elsewhere for a streaming option.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #56
Diamondbacks optioned LHP Brandon Hughes to Triple-A Reno.
Hughes was just recalled Tuesday, but the Diamondbacks need a roster spot for Ryne Nelson after Nelson was activated off the 15-day injured list. Hughes is still on the 40-man roster, so he could see another chance with the D-Backs before the end of 2024.
  • LAD Third Baseman #13
Max Muncy is not in the starting lineup for the Dodgers on Sunday against Atlanta.
Muncy’s reward for a three-homer game Saturday vs. Atlanta is a day off against southpaw Max Fried. The 33-year-old slugger will sit with Enrique Hernandez playing third base and hitting fifth against Fried.
  • COL Shortstop #14
Ezequiel Tovar is not in the lineup to begin Sunday’s game against the Pirates.
For the first time in 2024, Tovar will get a day off. The shortstop will at least begin Sunday’s finale on the bench with Alan Trejo handling his duties.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #54
Blue Jays optioned LHP Brendon Little to Triple-A Buffalo.
Little is pushed off the roster with Alek Manoah coming off the injured list for his season debut. The 27-year-old will likely get another chance to help the Toronto bullpen at some point this summer.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #6
Blue Jays activated Alek Manoah off the 15-day injured list.
Manoah comes off the injured list to make his season debut against the Nationals on Sunday. The right-hander had mixed results in his rehab appearances, but he was excellent Tuesday with 12 strikeouts over six innings in his finale. Manoah was one of the worst fantasy options in baseball last year, but isn’t far removed from being one of the best. Simply put, there’s as much risk — if not more — as there is reward with Manoah’s profile.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #22
Garrett Whitlock told reporters Sunday that he felt good after his bullpen session Saturday.
Whitlock will now take at least a couple days off before his next bullpen session, which has yet to be scheduled. The right-hander will likely need to make one or two more before a potential rehab assignment. There’s still no clear timetable as to when any of this can happen, however.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #57
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol told reporters that Zack Thompson could be an option for St. Louis on Friday against the Brewers.
Marmol told reporters that Thompson was not in consideration for Sunday’s start as they want the 26-year-old to continue to work on things. Matthew Liberatore is getting the start Sunday, but depending on how things go, St. Louis may not have a choice but to go with Thompson over the weekend.
