  • CLE Relief Pitcher #34
Guardians recalled RHP Peter Strzelecki from Triple-A Columbus.
The 29-year-old right-hander will replace Tyler Beede in the Guardians’ bullpen. Strzelecki has already made two appearances for the Guardians this season, firing two scoreless frames with a 0.50 WHIP and a 1/0 K/BB ratio. Expect him to be utilized in a middle relief role.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #7
Blake Snell was outstanding in Friday’s minor league rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento, piling up 10 strikeouts over five innings of no-hit baseball.
The plan all along had been for Snell to rejoin the Giants’ rotation next week as long as this start went well, and he was nearly perfect. Look for him to slot back into the team’s rotation against the Pirates in Pittsburgh next week. Prior to landing on the injured list, Snell had gone 0-3 with an 11.57 ERA and 1.97 WHIP over his first three starts.
  • MIL Shortstop #3
Joey Ortiz hit a three-run homer while going 3-for-4 in a loss to the Astros on Friday.
Ortiz also doubled, with the only damper on the evening being a caught stealing. The former Baltimore top prospect has been a big part of Milwaukee’s success, as this is the fifth homer for the 25-year-old and he’s slashing .296/.397/.561 for good measure. It was understandable for those who were skeptical of Ortiz as a fantasy option coming into the year, but this is no longer all that small of sample. It’s time to take him seriously.
  • HOU Shortstop #3
Jeremy Peña hit a three-run homer to help the Astros to a 5-4 win over the Brewers on Friday.
Peña came up huge for the Astros with a three-run homer off Freddy Peralta that gave the Astros their 5-4 lead in the fifth inning. The shortstop has enjoyed a strong first six-plus weeks of the season, as he’s gone deep five times while slashing .326/.364/.469. This is the version of Peña fantasy managers were hoping to see in 2023. So far, so good in 2024.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #71
Josh Hader didn’t give up a run while picking up a save Friday against the Brewers.
Hader gets the save against one of his former employers in Milwaukee. The southpaw has now saved six games in 2024, and he’s nearly halved his 8.38 ERA on April 19 to 4.50. The issues Hader was dealing with in the earliest portion of the campaign appear to have mostly subsided.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #51
Freddy Peralta was charted for five runs over five innings while picking up a loss to the Astros on Friday.
Both Hunter Brown and Peralta gave up all of their damage via the long-ball in this contest, and in Peralta’s case, he gave up a two-run homer to Jake Meyers and a three-run blast to Jeremy Peña. Outside of those blasts the right-hander was mostly effective, but damage done. It’s the second time in five starts he’s allowed at least five runs, and a 1.90 ERA on April 19 has ballooned to 4.17. He’ll look to get back on track against the Marlins next week.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #58
Hunter Brown gave up four runs in five innings but still picked up the win Friday against the Brewers.
Brown allows four hits — two of them homers, including a three-run homer by Joey Ortiz — and he walked three while striking out five. It’s another mediocre start from the right-hander, and mediocre seems to be pretty kind at this stage. It’s never a good sign when five innings of four-run baseball sees your ERA drop to 7.71. That being said, it was good enough for the win Friday, and it’s the first of the season for Brown.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #14
Tyler Alexander pitched a career-high 7 ⅓ innings in a 4-3 win over the Blue Jays on Friday. He allowed three runs, three hits, and struck out four.
It’s been a trying season for Alexander as he’s fully transitioned into a starter’s role with the Tampa Bay rotation strapped for depth and this was his best start. It’s still difficult to trust him moving forward.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #29
Peter Fairbanks worked a clean ninth inning striking out one Blue Jays on Friday for his fourth save.
Fairbanks finally saved his first game since returning from the IL. He’s allowed no earned runs with six strikeouts across four innings and looks back to his normal, dominant self.
  • TOR Second Baseman #36
Davis Schneider hit a two-run home run in a loss to the Rays on Friday.
As has been the story for most of this season, Schneider was the lone bright spot for the Jays’ offense on Friday. The home run was his fifth of the season and his 13 BB% and 145 wRC+ suggest he could move up in order permanently if the Blue Jays ever want to relieve George Springer of his lead-off duties.
  • TB Left Fielder #1
Richie Palacios went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in the Rays win over the Blue Jays on Friday.
Palacios has become a highly productive lineup fixture for the Rays, only sitting against three right-handed pitchers this season. The home run was his fourth along with six stolen bases. Friday also marked his ninth start at second base.
