  • ARI Center Fielder #7
Corbin Carroll went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and five RBI in a win over the Reds on Tuesday.
This was a much-needed big game for Carroll, who is still slashing just .211/.300/.278 on the season with two home runs and 12 RBI. The home run was well-struck at 104.3 mph off the bat and traveling 390 feet. While that’s great, it was the only ball on the day that Carroll hit over 87 mph. It doesn’t make sense to trade Carroll away while his value is so low, but we’ll need to see more consistent quality contact before we can be sure he’s fully healthy or ready for a hot stretch. However, it is nice to see him back to hitting leadoff, which would be important for his fantasy value.
  • SF Center Fielder #29
Luis Matos delivered a game-winning sac fly in the bottom of the 10th as the Giants bested the Phillies 1-0 on Tuesday.
Matos was 0-for-3 in the contest before his fly to left entered the game. It’s hard to say if the Giants will keep both he and Heliot Ramos after Michael Conforto comes off the IL, something that should happen this weekend. The Giants consider Matos the better option in center, but Ramos has been the more impressive hitter to date.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #40
Spencer Howard shut out the Phillies for four innings in his bulk role Tuesday.
It sounded like Howard would be the second pitcher in tonight, but he instead entered in the fourth after Erik Miller and Taylor Rogers combined on three scoreless innings. He then kept his old team scoreless through the seventh. It didn’t get him a win, but he might have earned a chance to stick around. The 27-year-old was making his 2024 MLB debut after posting a 5.90 ERA in 10 starts for Sacramento.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #45
Zack Wheeler blanked the Giants for six innings, allowing just two hits, in a no-decision Tuesday.
Wheeler wasn’t at his most efficient tonight, but that didn’t really matter, since the Phillies went 10 innings without scoring. It’s Wheeler’s ninth quality start in 12 tries, and he lowered his ERA to 2.32. Still, the Phillies bizarrely are only 6-6 when he pitches, compared to 32-12 the rest of the time.
  • PHI Second Baseman #5
Bryson Stott, who didn’t start Monday, went 0-for-4 in the loss to the Giants on Tuesday.
Stott has run extremely hot and cold this season, posting a .559 OPS over his first 25 games and a 1.242 OPS over his subsequent 18 games. Now he’s back in another drought, having gone 2-for-28 in his last eight games. The good news is that he’s struck out just three times during that span. He still projects as a useful MI in mixed leagues going forward.
  • SEA Center Fielder #44
Julio Rodríguez went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead single in the bottom of the eighth as the Mariners bested the Astros 4-2 on Tuesday.
Rodriguez delivered after Josh Rojas tied the game with an RBI single off Ryan Pressly. Those two combined for four of the Mariners’ seven hits and all three of the team’s runs batted in tonight (the other run also came on Rodríguez’s eighth-inning hit, but it was the result of an error). Rodríguez is 8-for-17 with two homers and seven RBI in his last four games, raising his OPS from .606 to .657.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #58
Luis Castillo threw six innings of two-run ball against the Astros on Tuesday.
It’s the fourth straight start in which Castillo has allowed exactly two runs. He hasn’t given up more than two earned runs since his third start of the year on April 8, and his ERA is down to 3.28. He’ll face the Angels next.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #45
Ryne Stanek picked up his third save with a perfect ninth Tuesday against the Astros.
Andrés Muñoz worked the previous two days, so he had this one off. Stanek has a 4.26 ERA and a 21/6 K/BB in 19 innings as the primary fallback in the Seattle pen.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #58
Hunter Brown limited the Mariners to one run over six innings and struck out nine in a no-decision Tuesday.
The result certainly wasn’t what Houston wanted, but Brown’s outing was awfully encouraging. Boasting maybe his best slider of the year, he got 14 missed swings and topped his previous season high for strikeouts by two. It’s his third quality start and just the second time he’s gone without allowing a walk. In truth, it was a strong enough showing to make him worth considering in mixed leagues in which he’s been dropped.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #55
Ryan Pressly took his fourth blown save and second loss after giving up three runs — two earned — in the eighth inning Tuesday against the Mariners.
Pressly’s velocity is down some, but his peripherals remain strong. Nevertheless, he’s sporting a 5.31 ERA at the moment. He’s given up half as many hits (27) in 20 1/3 innings this year that he did in 65 1/3 innings last season (54). If the Astros ever do lose Josh Hader for a time, they might have to turn to Bryan Abreu over Pressly in the closer’s role.
  • HOU Third Baseman #2
Alex Bregman went 2-for-4 and hit a homer that accounted for both Astros runs Tuesday in the loss to the Mariners.
Bregman had the nice game after switching places with Jeremy Peña and being dropped to the fifth spot in the lineup. Perhaps it means he’ll resume batting cleanup Wednesday, but the Astros truly have bigger concerns at the moment.
