  • MIN Starting Pitcher #49
Pablo López surrendered 10 hits, three earned runs, and a mammoth home run to Aaron Judge in 6 ⅓ innings on Wednesday. He took the loss and struck out just three Yankees.
The Yankees, especially Judge, were all over López in this one. Judge hit a 467-foot moonshot in the first inning and every starter besides Anthony Rizzo had at least one hit. It was still a marvel for López to work into the seventh inning and earn the quality start. He’s due to face the Nationals and Rangers next week in a two-start week.
  • LAA Right Fielder #3
Taylor Ward left Tuesday’s game for precautionary purposes due to lower back tightness.
Ward was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the rout after homering, doubling and walking in three plate appearances. He’s day-to-day. If he can’t play Wednesday, then Kevin Pillar figures to get a start against a right-hander.
  • SEA Catcher #29
Cal Raleigh drove in three runs with two doubles in leading the Mariners to a 4-3 victory over the White Sox on Tuesday.
Raleigh doubled in one in the third and then two in the seventh, giving him nine RBI in three days. That matches the total of the rest of the Mariners combined during a three-game inning streak.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #74
Jhonathan Diaz yielded three runs in 5 1/3 innings against the White Sox in his Mariners debut Tuesday.
Freed from the Angels organization over the winter, Diaz showed enough in Triple-A this year to suggest that he can be a useful bottom-of-the-rotation option. With Bryan Woo perhaps out for a while, Diaz could offer some utility in deeper fantasy formats.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #45
Ryne Stanek notched his fifth save with a perfect ninth versus the White Sox on Tuesday.
Andrés Muñoz (back) was obviously unavailable again tonight. The Mariners are calling Muñoz day-to-day, but if that changes, Stanek will be worth using in mixed leagues.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #96
Drew Thorpe went without a decision in his major league debut after allowing two runs — one earned — and three hits in five innings against the Mariners.
He struck out four. Errors from Nicky Lopez and Lenyn Sosa added to Thorpe’s pitch count and probably shortened his outing by an inning tonight. He still left with a 3-2 lead, but the bullpen couldn’t make that hold up. This is pretty much what we’d expect from Thorpe going forward; he’ll be pretty good, but perhaps not good enough to make up for the awful team supporting him.
  • SEA Center Fielder #44
Julio Rodríguez singled, stole two bases and scored two runs Tuesday against the White Sox.
Rodríguez gave the Mariners a scare on one of the steals, as he jammed his left knee on a hard slide into second. Fortunately he was able to walk it off afterwards. He now has 16 steals on the year, and while that hardly completely makes up for the disappointing numbers elsewhere, it has allowed him to maintain some usefulness in fantasy leagues.
  • SD Left Fielder #10
Padres manager Mike Shildt said Jurickson Profar left Tuesday’s game with a sore left knee and that he’s been dealing with it for a while.
The Padres are calling him day-to-day. That Profar’s knee buckled on a swing is rather scary, and we’re certainly more concerned about this than the typical “day-to-day” injury. David Peralta could get some extra at-bats in his place if he needs to miss some time.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #56
Ronel Blanco limited the Giants to one run and three hits over six innings in the Astros’ 3-1 victory Tuesday.
Blanco matched his high total with eight strikeouts in bouncing back from consecutive poor showings against the Twins and Cardinals. The only damage against him came on a Brett Wisely homer in the third. The win moved Blanco to 6-2 with a 2.67 ERA. He’ll get the White Sox next.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #55
Ryan Pressly worked a scoreless ninth with a two-run lead for his second save Tuesday against the Giants.
Pressly unsurprisingly got the nod over Bryan Abreu with Josh Hader unavailable after working the previous two days. Pressly has been used as the Astros’ eighth-inning guy throughout, even though, with his 5.19 ERA, he’s been noticeably less effective than Abreu.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #12
Jordan Hicks yielded three runs in 4 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Astros.
Hicks didn’t have his usual velocity tonight, averaging 93.0 mph with his sinker. That’s down 1.9 mph from his season average and 3.2 mph from his start six days ago. Last time this happened, it was blamed on an illness, and Hicks’ velocity returned to normal his next time out. We’ll have to wait and see what the reasoning is this time.
