RCGA Donates $1 Million to Promote Golf

The Royal Canadian Golf Association and Canadian Interuniversity Sport are teaming up to try to keep Canadas best young golfers from moving to the United States.

The governing body for golf is donating $1 million to help establish university and college golf programs, complete with scholarships the RCGA announced Feb. 27.

The hope is that the programs will eventually provide an alternative to NCAA programs. There are more than 300 Canadian golfers attending universities or colleges in the United States.

Were confident this will be successful based on the enthusiasm weve already received from both the university and college people, association head Rich Desrochers said Friday.
