Friday will bring leaderboard movement

TURNBERRY, Scotland – Saturday may be known as moving day but Friday here at the British Open will see a lot of movement.

Thursday’s perfect conditions are a thing of the past as Round 2 has seen wind and rain all morning. The rain is expected to stay until 4 p.m. here (11 a.m. ET) but wind gusts up to 25 mph are forecast for the remainder of the day.

The conditions already have dashed the hopes of Ben Curtis, who opened with a 65. He’s 9 over par through 13 holes with seven bogeys and two double bogeys. Overnight leader Miguel Angel Jimenez shot 4 over 39 on the front nine.

As longtime British commentator Peter Alliss said, ‘Today is not a day for fancy shots.’
