Jaidee, Jimenez named captains for EurAsia Cup

Thongchai Jaidee and Miguel Angel Jimenez have been named playing captains for the inaugural 2014 EurAsia Cup, the biennial, three-day match-play event that will pit 20 players from Europe and Asia.

The Ryder Cup-style event, co-sanctioned by the European and Asian tours, which will be held March 27-29 at Glenmarie Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur.

Jaidee, 44, is a three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner who has captured 16 professional titles, including five wins on the European Tour.

Jimenez, who turns 50 next month, has 19 wins in 28 years on the European Tour. He has played in four Ryder Cups, and was a vice captain at last year’s Ryder Cup at Medinah.

Team Asia will include the leading four available players from the 2013 Asian Tour Order of Merit, the leading three available Asian players invited on the basis of their Official World Ranking, the playing captain and two captain’s picks.

Europe will be comprised of the leading four available players from the 2013 Race to Dubai, the leading four available players from the Official World Ranking, the playing captain and one captain’s pick.

The first day of the three-day event includes five foursomes matches, followed by five four-ball matches on Day 2 and 10 singles matches on the final day.
