Arthur Rhodes officially retires

MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon reports that reliever Arthur Rhodes has officially retired from baseball.

Rhodes hadn’t pitched in the majors since 2011. He made his first All-Star Game in 2010 with the Reds at the age of 40, finishing the season with a 2.29 ERA and a 50/18 K/BB ratio in 55 innings. A veteran of 20 seasons, Rhodes pitched for the Orioles, Mariners, Athletics, Indians, Phillies, Marlins, Reds, Rangers, and Cardinals. He finished with a career 4.08 ERA in 1,187 2/3 innings.

In 2011, his final season, Rhodes was traded from the Rangers to the Cardinals in August. Coincidentally, both teams went on to face each other in the World Series, meaning Rhodes would get a World Series ring regardless of who emerged victorious.
