In a move that seemed inevitable the moment Willson Contreras grabbed his hamstring last weekend the Cubs have signed free agent catcher Jonathan Lucroy.
Lucroy, 33, was released by the Angels on Monday. he had batted just .242/.310/.371 over 74 games this year in Anaheim. Still, the Cubs probably would prefer to have an experienced veteran filling in as opposed to just Víctor Caratini and organizational depth. How much tie Lucroy gets behind the plate is an open question, but at least the Cubs have some more options now.
