How dare you Yankees fans cheer a player who is playing well and helping your team win?!

Alex Rodriguez

There are so many goodies in this anti-A-Rod column from John Schmeelk that I’m not even gonna quote ‘em. You just have to experience them all in context, as the artist intended. The upshot: sports fans who root for a team are wrong to be happy when a player on the team does well and should not cheer him because to do so makes a mockery of all of that moralizing and character assessment we in the media do and you ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

But I will show you the headline:

There’s “a Yankee Way?” I thought the entire ethos of the New York Yankees is to do whatever the hell they want to do and then, after the fact, talk about how it was all inevitable. That’s worked for so long, now we’re gonna ascribe some sort of morality to them? Jeez.

The Cardinals have a way. Or had, I dunno. The Astros have a process. The Dodgers have more money than God. But no, I’m sorry, the Yankees don’t have a way at all. That’s the entire point of rooting for and loving the Yankees. “We win, and screw you if you don’t like it, pal.” Indeed, baseball is way more fun when that happens.
