The details and reasoning is not yet being reported, but apparently the judge in the Jim Leyritz criminal trial has just ordered that one of the two manslaughter charges against Leyritz be dropped. I never looked at the actual charges against him, but apparently there were two distinct manslaughter charges, one being a lesser-included offense of the other. The jury -- who is expected to get the case today -- can still consider the lesser included offense.
This may not get Leyrtiz off the hook, but it certainly suggests that the prosecutors have either (a) brought a flawed case to trial; or (b) have badly bungled it.
