Josh Thole re-signed by the Jays in some roster ju-jitsu

Minnesota Twins v Toronto Blue Jays

TORONTO, CANADA - AUGUST 27: Josh Thole #22 of the Toronto Blue Jays cannot block a wild pitch in the dirt that gets away from him in the first inning during MLB game action allowing Brian Dozier #2 of the Minnesota Twins to score a run from third base on August 27, 2016 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Catcher Josh Thole was released by the Blue Jays earlier this week so they could make room for Dioner Navarro. Last night the Blue Jays re-signed him, just in time for him to be eligible to be on the Blue Jays postseason roster in the event he needs to catch knuckleballer R.A. Dickey in a playoff game.

To make room for Thole, the Blue Jays optioned Devon Travis all the way down to the Appalachian League, which is freakin’ rookie ball. But that wasn’t some slight to Travis, who has hit decently in nearly 300 plate appearances this year. Rather, it was a neat way to make quick roster space: since the Appalachian League season ends tonight, he can immediately be called back up to Toronto tomorrow rather than having to wait ten days if he had gone to Triple-A. He’s likely not “going” anywhere other than to his living room for the day.
