UPDATE: Maybe it’s not as bad as first feared. The Phillies are now saying that Vince Velasquez left today’s game with right biceps soreness. Here’s hoping that’s all it is.

1:36 PM: Uh-oh.

Phillies starter Vince Velasquez was pulled from this afternoon’s game against the Cubs in the bottom of the first inning with an apparent injury. Velasquez threw just two pitches -- both at 87 mph -- before leaving with a trainer.

We’ll update when we hear something about his condition, but these situations rarely turn out well for pitchers. Also worth noting: Velasquez had Tommy John surgery once before, in 2010.
