MLB.com’s Jon Morosi reports that the Red Sox have contacted the Marlins, expressing interest in relievers Kyle Barraclough, Adam Conley, and Drew Steckenrider. While Tyler Thornburg will soon debut for the Red Sox, the club is looking for more reinforcements as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approaches.
All three relievers have multiple years of team control remaining, which makes them even more attractive to a contending team. Barraclough took over as the Marlins’ closer in early June and overall has eight saves with a 0.99 ERA and a 39/17 K/BB ratio in 36 1/3 innings. Steckenrider owns a 3.28 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 15 walks in 35 2/3 innings. Conley, who throws from the left side, has accrued only 17 1/3 innings but owns a 1.56 ERA with an 18/4 K/BB ratio.
Morosi also reported on Sunday that the Dodgers expressed similar interest in the Marlins’ relievers. More contenders should reach out to the last-place Marlins for relief help over the next few weeks.
