Shin-Soo Choo and Drew Stubbs hit the DL, Joey Gallo recalled from Triple-A
Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Friday after missing six weeks with a calf strain, but he couldn’t make it through the weekend without getting injured again. Choo suffered a strained hamstring during Friday’s game against the Astros, exiting in the third inning, and has been placed on the disabled list retroactive to May 21, MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan reports.
There’s been no announcement of a timetable for Choo’s latest injury, but it will be at least a couple of weeks. It’s been a tough year for the 33-year-old Choo, as he has appeared in only six games this season, the third year of his seven-year, $130 million contract.
Drew Stubbs joined Choo on the disabled list on Monday, as he has a sprained left pinkie toe. Sullivan reports that the club is calling up slugger Joey Gallo from Triple-A Round Rock.
Gallo, 22, is hitting .265/.415/.639 with eight home runs and 20 RBI in the minors this season. He showed serious power in the majors last year, but also hit a meager .205 and struck out 57 times in 123 trips to the plate. Gallo has shown improvement in that regard as he also carries a 22/24 K/BB ratio with Round Rock.
