Joey Cora, who was originally expected to be the White Sox’s interim manager these last two games of the season, is now out of a job under mysterious circumstances.
GM Ken Williams said he and Cora spoke over the phone earlier Tuesday and that it was “mutually agreed” that Cora would not report to the ballpark tonight. That contradicts reports that Cora was fired via a text message from Williams.
It sounds like Cora, who wasn’t going to be as strongly considered as the heir to Guillen in Chicago, will follow Guillen to Florida and remain a bench coach. Or as SI.com’s Jon Heyman put it:
