  • BUF Defensive Back #22
Free agent CB Vontae Davis is visiting the Raiders on Wednesday.
Davis has visited the Bills, Browns, and 49ers in the last week and is now onto Oakland. The 30-year-old (in May) is eligible to sign whenever he pleases and should be making a decision in the next two or three weeks before free agency opens on March 14. The Raiders already released CB David Amerson earlier this month and likely will do the same with CB Sean Smith sooner than later.
  • BUF Defensive Back #22
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bills are attempting to recoup Vontae Davis’ signing bonus.
Davis, as you may have heard, retired at halftime against the Chargers in Week 2. The Bills have since placed him on the reserve/left squad list, a move that voids the remainder of his 2018 salary. Davis is leaving a lot of money on the table by walking away and per Rapoport, the Bills are fighting tooth and nail to recoup the retired cornerback’s $1.5 million signing bonus. Including incentives, the 30-year-old could have earned up to $5 million this year, but if Davis has to give back his signing bonus, he could walk away with less than $700,000.

Bills CB Vontae Davis retired at halftime of Sunday’s Week 2 game with the Chargers.
Davis wasn’t on the sideline after halftime, and coach Sean McDermott confirmed he pulled himself out of the game. With Phillip Gaines getting carted off, it left Buffalo with just two healthy corners. Davis looked washed in the preseason and had been a healthy scratch before this week. The Bills secondary is running on fumes going into Week 3.
  • BUF Defensive Back #22
Bills CB Vontae Davis is active for Week 2 against the Chargers.
Davis was a healthy scracth last week, but he’s needed with Taron Johnson (shouder) out. Davis should play outside in nickel packages, with Phillip Gaines moving to the slot. Buffalo’s inactives are WR Ray-Ray McCloud, OG Ike Boettger, OT Conor McDermott, OG Wyatt Teller, TE Khari Lee, and DE Shaq Lawson.
  • BUF Defensive Back #22
WKBW’s Joe Buscaglia expects CB Vontae Davis to be active this week.
The Bills made Davis a healthy Week 1 scratch after he was shredded in the preseason. With nickel CB Taron Johnson (shouder) sidelined, they should turn back to him on the outside, with Phillip Gaines moving to the slot in sub-packages. Buffalo is hoping to get some return from Davis after giving him $3.5 million guaranteed. The Bills secondary was lit up for for three touchdowns by Joe Flacco in their season-opening loss.
  • BUF Defensive Back #22
Dolphins top CB Vontae Davis (hamstring) was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice.
Davis, who was suspended by the team in Week 9, is looking to put all distractions behind him and play against the Redskins this week. It appears he’s on track to start. It’s bad news for a John Beck, who is averaging just 9.24 yards per completion over the last two weeks. He’ll struggle to get the ball to his wideouts once again.
  • BUF Defensive Back #22
Dolphins CB Vontae Davis left Saturday’s Week 16 game against the Patriots in the fourth quarter with an elbow injury.
Davis was trying to tackle Stevan Ridley and got the worst of it. Nolan Carroll has come on.
  • BUF Defensive Back #22
Dolphins CB Vontae Davis (hamstring) has been officially been ruled out for Sunday’s game against Kansas City.
Davis hasn’t played since Week 6, and NFL Network’s Jeff Darlington recently reported that he may be a candidate for I.R. Seventh-round rookie Jimmy Wilson has been a liability opposite Sean Smith, and is an ideal target for matchup purposes. The Dolphins rank 27th against the pass heading into Sunday’s game.
  • BUF Defensive Back #22
Dolphins CB Vontae Davis has yet to allow a touchdown pass this season.
According to Pro Football Focus, QBs have a 66.7 rating throwing into Davis’ coverage area. It’s a major improvement from last season and much better mark than Sean Smith’s 101.9 rating. Now over a nagging hamstring injury, Davis’ play has picked up substantially since a one-game suspension early last month.
  • FA Running Back #30
Daniel Thomas (hamstring) has been downgraded to out for Week 8.
LCB Vontae Davis (hamstring) was also deactivated for Week 8. Thomas failed to turn in a full practice for the second straight week, but was expected to get the nod against the Giants’ 27th ranked run defense. Instead, he’ll sit out for the second time in four games, and leave the Dolphins’ running load to Reggie Bush and Lex Hilliard. Bush should easily see the most touches, but Hilliard could be in line for most short-yardage work. Bush should now be considered a solid RB3/flex play, while Hilliard is little more than a desperation option for players in deeper leagues.
