Flyers retain Lauridsen for two years, $1.2M

The Philadelphia Flyers handed defenseman Oliver Lauridsen a two-year, $1.2 million contract on Wednesday.

Team Web site reporter Anthony SanFilippo reports that it’s structured in an interesting way: the first year is two-way while the second is one-way.

Perhaps that provides a window into how the team feels the 24-year-old’s development is coming along. (It could also be a matter of salary cap management, too.)

At 6-foot-6, Lauridsen at least boasts the size to justify the team’s curiosity, and could be quite the nice find as a seventh-round pick (196th overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft.

The Denmark native played in 15 games at the NHL level with Philly toward the end of last season, collecting three points and 34 PIM while averaging a little more than 15 minutes per game.
