How bobsledders train without ice (video)

For many winter sports, the terrain to train during non-winter months is available.

Alpine skiers will travel to Chile. Snowboarders to New Zealand. But bobsledders can’t so easily haul their equipment to the southern hemisphere.

Instead, they make due on dry land.

Check out this video from the Wall Street Journal featuring 2010 Olympic bronze medalist Elana Meyers at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center.

Meyers takes viewers through a typical workout for bobsledders during the spring and summer. They still use a sled, but it’s on wheels.

The 2013-14 bobsled World Cup season begins in the last week of November in Calgary, Canada. Here is the viewing schedule on Universal Sports.
