Liverpool fell to West Ham on Saturday, but apparently, the defeat didn’t mean that much to Mario Balotelli, as the 24-year-old turned his focus to Twitter to make fun of Manchester United’s 5-3 disastrous loss.

“Man utd ... LOL,” the Italian striker wrote.

After a fair amount of racial-directed hate comments were posted to this tweet, the question of social media etiquette and the consequences surrounding abuse via Twitter was raised.

It looks like the curators of the bad remarks will not go unnoticed, as Merseyside, UK police have confirmed that they will take action on the issue hours after it came to the public’s attention.

“We can confirm officers are looking into offensive comments made on Twitter about Mario Balotelli earlier today,” the police account read.

Balotelli opened his scoring account for Liverpool in their first match of 2014-15 Champions League play on Sept. 16 against Bulgarian club Ludogorets Razgrad.
