Morgan goal silences Leicester teammates: “It’s great to shut them up”

Leicester City v Southampton - Premier League

He was sick, he was ridiculed, and perhaps sick of being ridiculed.

Leicester City captain Wes Morgan had the antidote to all of that.

Morgan’s first half goal lifted his club to its 10th home victory of the year, a 1-0 win over Southampton, and a 7-point lead atop the Premier League table with six matches to play.

The fairytale is on. No longer are Leicester players ignoring their hope for a title. They saw their chance and seized it.

“We saw the [Tottenham] game yesterday was a draw and wanted to make the most of our opportunity. We really wanted it today. I’ve been getting a lot of stick because I haven’t scored all season so it’s great to shut them up. I was quite ill yesterday but obviously I wanted to play.”

Morgan is 32, and hadn’t played in the Premier League until last season. He wasn’t capped by Jamaica until 2013 (perhaps he was holding out hope for England, but still).

Yet here he is, one of the standout players on the most unlikely of stories ever told: barring a story as crazy as theirs, the Foxes are going to win the league.

But they know that.
