December’s going alright for Daniel Engelbrecht. The 24-year-old Stuttgarter Kickers attacker not only became the first German league player to suit up with a heart defibrillator, he netted a pair of match-winning goals.
The second came today, and underscores his remarkable ride back to professional soccer. After collapsing on the field in a game back in July 2013, Engelbrecht had undergone four heart surgeries to get back on the pitch. Read more about him here.

Engelbrecht was inspired by a Belgian player who recovered from a slightly-less serious heart ailment to return to the game. Though he’s admitted he has to fear every day, he’s doubtless an inspiration for many.
And this goal on Saturday for the Kickers in Germany’s third-flight wasn’t too shabby, either:
