VIDEO: Fabian Johnson scores in Gladbach’s first win

Borussia Monchengladbach lost their opening five matches of the Bundesliga season, which led to Lucien Favre resigning as manager.

Today, in the club’s first game under interim boss Andre Schubert, Gladbach finally got off the mark with a 4-2 win over Augsburg, with USMNT player Fabian Johnson opening the scoring for his club.

Johnson gave Monchengladbach the lead just five minutes in with a well-struck volley, as the side jumped out to a 4-0 lead within the opening 25 minutes. Augsburg would pull two back in the second half, but Gladbach would leave with all three points, their first of the season.

The performance is encouraging for both Gladbach and the USMNT, as it was Johnson’s first appearance since tearing his calf in the opening match of the Bundesliga season. Johnson scored and played 60 minutes before being subbed off.

With the CONCACAF playoff coming up against Mexico in October, it’s encouraging to see Johnson getting back in form, as he will surely be a starter for Jurgen Klinsmann at the Rose Bowl.
