Alabama boosters paid off $3.1 million for Nick Saban’s home

Alabama head coach Nick Saban may get frustrated by the pressure of not winning well enough according to some Alabama fans and pundits, but he has about $3.1 million reasons to be thankful for Alabama boosters today. Alabama boosters reportedly paid off the remaining $3.1 million owed on the home of Saban and his family in 2013. The Crimson Tide Foundation also pays the property taxes annually on the property.

“It’s not all that unusual in the world for universities to provide the housing,” Scott Phelps, assistant secretary of the foundation, said in a story by Al.com. “We want to keep him happy. We think he is the best coach in America.”

This is nothing new at Alabama at least. The university reportedly owned both homes that were previously occupied by Paul “Bear” Bryant during his tenure as head coach of the Crimson Tide. In fairness, this is likely common at many university programs to some extent, but most coaches around the country are not being paid as handsomely as Saban is at Alabama. Still, this is a nice perk to have if you are Saban. As long as Saban continues to win at Alabama at least. Start losing game sin the sEC and Saban and his wife might soon be evicted from the property.
