When Texas opens the 2013 season in late August at home, the Longhorns will do so without a pair of wide receivers in tow.
Thanks to a pair of separate off-field “incidents” this offseason, both Cayleb Jones (pictured) and Kendall Sanders have been suspended for the opener against New Mexico State, head coach Mack Brown revealed Monday. Both will be eligible to return the following week as UT travels to Provo to take on BYU.
Jones and Sanders have been reinstated to the team, Brown said, and will be permitted to participate in all team-related activities.
Jones was originally charged with felony assault in connection to a mid-March incident in which he allegedly broke the jaw of a UT tennis player who was dating his former girlfriend. The felony charge was ultimately reduced a month later, clearing the way for Jones’ return to the team.
Three weeks after Jones’ legal run-in, Sanders was charged with driving under the influence.
Both players were/are expected to compete for a starting job.
