‘Noles extend Jimbo Fisher’s deal another year

Many people -- myself included -- thought this would be the season Florida State returned to the national stage and put themselves in the BcS title mix.

While that didn’t even remotely happen, the Seminoles’ head coach will still find himself with a little additional “job security” heading into the 2012 season.

In a press release, FSU announced that Jimbo Fisher is on the receiving end of a one-year contract extension. The additional year tacked on to his current contract means he’s signed through the 2016 season.

There was no change to the financial structure for Fisher, who made just north of $2.7 million in 2011.

“I’m very grateful and very respectful,” said Fisher in a statement. “Florida State is a job you want to stay at forever. The faith the university has in us, the program and the direction in which we are going, we feel very fortunate. We are committed to this and they are committed to this. We are very blessed and thankful to President [Eric] Barron, our athletic director Randy Spetman and our Board of Trustees for the extension. We’re very excited about the future and where our program is going.”

With just this evening’s bowl game remaining in his second season in Tallahassee, Fisher has an 18-8 overall mark and 11-5 record in ACC play.

The ‘Noles won the Atlantic Division crown in Fisher’s first year en route to a 10-win season in 2010. A win the the Champs Sports Bowl matchup with Notre Dame would get the ‘Noles to 9-4 in his second season.
