Draft Guide Preview: Mixed League Mock Draft

With Opening Day less than a month away, there’s no time like the present to start cramming for your fantasy baseball drafts. And there’s no better resource to help guide you to another championship than our 2019 MLB Draft Guide. This year’s edition is as jam packed as ever with over 1,500 player profiles, customizable projections, rankings, positional tiers and a ton of exclusive columns.

One of those columns is Rotoworld’s annual Mixed League Mock Draft column where the the Rotoworld baseball crew and some friends around the industry make their picks for a standard 12-team mixed league fantasy draft. Here’s a small sampling of what you can get in the full online Draft Guide.

Round 1

1.1 Mike Trout, OF, Angels
1.2 Mookie Betts, OF, Red Sox
1.3 Jose Ramirez, 3B, Indians
1.4 Max Scherzer, SP, Nationals
1.5 Nolan Arenado, 3B, Rockies
1.6 J.D. Martinez, OF, Red Sox
1.7 Ronald Acuna, OF, Braves
1.8 Christian Yelich, OF, Brewers
1.9 Francisco Lindor, SS, Indians
1.10 Trea Turner, SS, Nationals
1.11 Alex Bregman, 3B, Astros
1.12 Jose Altuve, 2B, Astros

Round Analysis: Mike Trout at No. 1 overall is obvious, as is Mookie Betts at No. 2. And I’m a fan of Jose Ramirez in the No. 3 spot this year after he tallied 39 home runs, 105 RBI, 34 stolen bases, and 110 runs scored across 157 regular-season games last year with the Indians. Max Scherzer at No. 4 is not something I would do, but it does make some sense. He’s really the Trout of starting pitchers, even at age 34. Lock in 300 strikeouts and a near-2.50 ERA with the potential for 20 wins, and your early-round pitching worries suddenly wash away.

Round 9

9.97 Jose Peraza, SS, Reds
9.98 Felipe Vazquez, RP, Pirates
9.99 German Marquez, SP, Rockies
9.100 Aaron Hicks, OF, Yankees
9.101 Charlie Morton, SP, Rays
9.102 Craig Kimbrel, RP, Free Agent
9.103 Roberto Osuna, RP, Astros
9.104 Eloy Jimenez, OF, White Sox
9.105 Scooter Gennett, 2B, Reds
9.106 Matt Chapman, 3B, Athletics
9.107 Brad Hand, RP, Indians
9.108 Jose Leclerc, RP, Ranger

Round Analysis: Eloy Jimenez at 104th overall might be a case of buying too much into the hype. The 22-year-old is a consensus top-five prospect and he slashed .337/.384/.577 with 22 home runs in 108 games last summer between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte, but the White Sox are going to leave him in the minors a little longer to stunt his service time and he will have to really hit the ground running once he arrives in Chicago to justify a ninth-round selection in a standard mixed fantasy league. As a later-round stash? Fine.
