  • BOS Catcher #3
Reese McGuire was pulled from Tuesday night’s ballgame against the Rays due to an apparent left thumb injury.
McGuire suffered the injury while warming up Tanner Houck in between innings, a pitch in the dirt caught him directly on the left thumb. He’ll likely head for X-rays to see if he’s dealing with any fractures. Look for the Red Sox to update his status when possible.
  • ARI Center Fielder #7
Corbin Carroll went 3-for-5 with a double, a steal and two runs scored as the Diamondbacks edged the Padres 4-3 on Thursday.
It’s just Carroll’s second three-hit game of the year. All three of Carroll’s hits were legit, leaving his bat on a line at 108, 106 and 99 mph. It’s definitely his most encouraging game in weeks and maybe of the entire season. At .201, he finished the game over the Mendoza Line for the first time since May 12.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #43
Slade Cecconi surrendered three runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings Thursday against the Padres.
Fortunately, the bullpen was stellar the rest of the way. For Cecconi, though, it was another tough outing. The Diamondbacks would have him in Triple-A right now if they possessed a healthy rotation. He turned in quality starts in his first two outings in April, but he’s given up 23 earned runs in 29 1/3 innings since, leaving him 1-4 with a 5.66 ERA.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #38
Paul Seward pitched a hitless ninth with a one-run lead for his seventh save Thursday against the Padres.
Sewald has been about as tough as ever since returning from an oblique strain a month ago. He has a 0.87 ERA and is 7-for-7 saving games this season.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #98
Randy Vásquez yielded three runs in 6 2/3 innings Thursday against the Diamondbacks.
Vásquez walked none and generated more soft contact than loud, but he did give up homers to Eugenio Suárez and Gabriel Moreno. The D’backs pulled him with two outs and none on in a 3-3 game in the seventh, only to watch the typically unhittable Jeremiah Estrada come in and give up a double and an RBI single to break the tie. Vásquez will get a home start against the A’s next time out, making him a streaming option in mixed leagues. The D’backs will eventually likely choose between him and Adam Mazur to remain in the rotation after Yu Darvish returns.
  • SD Third Baseman #13
After being held out of the starting lineup due to a hip flexor, Manny Machado grounded out as a pinch-hitter Thursday against the Diamondbacks.
The Padres said after the game that Machado would have been run for if he hadn’t gotten on base and that it’s unlikely that he’ll start Friday, even at DH. Tyler Wade played third base tonight and probably will do the same Friday.
  • NYY Shortstop #11
Anthony Volpe went 1-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base against the Twins on Thursday.
Volpe’s stolen base was his 12th of the season. He continues to occupy the leadoff spot in New York even after the return of D.J. LeMahieu. Volpe is up to 46 runs scored in 63 games for the Yankees this season.
  • COL Shortstop #79
Rockies 2B prospect Adael Amador went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI on Thursday for Double-A Hartford.
It certainly feels like Amador has heard all of the recent chatter regarding his slow start this season at the plate in the upper minors as he’s exploded for six round-trippers over his last eight games for Triple-A Hartford. The 21-year-old top prospect still has plenty of work to do from a batting average standpoint, but the fact that he’s starting to hit for more over-the-fence pop is an extremely encouraging development.
  • MIN Shortstop #4
Carlos Correa went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI against the Yankees on Thursday.
The home run was Correa’s fifth of the season. He later added a sacrifice fly and a single. Correa is hitting .263 with a .765 OPS and 24 RBI on the year. His .190 ISO would be his highest since his .205 ISO in 2021, his last year in Houston.
  • NYY Left Fielder #22
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters late Thursday that Juan Soto will undergo further imaging on his left forearm.
Boone added that Soto has been bothered by a lingering forearm issue for roughly a week at this juncture, which he has continued to receive treatment for, but he didn’t want to send him back out there following a lengthy rain delay during Thursday’s contest. The 25-year-old fantasy superstar will undergo some precautionary testing to determine the severity of the issue and there should be an update on his status ahead of Friday’s highly-anticipated series opener against the Dodgers.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #35
Clay Holmes tossed a scoreless inning and picked up the save against the Twins on Thursday.
The save was Holmes’ 18th of the season. He has allowed an earned run in only one of 28 appearances this year. Holmes has been fabulous with a 1.32 ERA and 28 strikeouts on the season.
