  • ATL Shortstop #11
Orlando Arcia returned to action on Wednesday and went 2-for-2 with a walk against the Blue Jays.
Arcia left Sunday’s game due to a left hand contusion, the result of being hit by a pitch.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #9
Cade Cavalli (elbow) struck out five over 2 2/3 scoreless innings during a rehab start Monday in the Florida Complex League.
Cavalli allowed one hit and one walk. The right-hander has made steady progress as of late from Tommy John surgery, and he was up to 97 mph while throwing 25-of-44 pitches for strikes. Cavalli will likely need to make a couple more rehab starts at the minimum, but he could be back in the rotation for the Nationals by the end of June.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #62
Atlanta recalled RHP Daysbel Hernandez from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Hernandez, 27, was pitching well for Gwinnett with a 1.65 ERA and 22/9 K/BB over 12 appearances and 16 1/3 innings. He’ll take the roster spot of Ray Kerr, with Kerr heading to Triple-A in the corresponding transaction.
  • PIT Second Baseman #3
Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports that the Pirates are recalling Ji-Hwan Bae from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Bae played well after being activated off the injured list and heading to Indianapolis with a .376 average and seven stolen bases to show for it. The 24-year-old can play all over the field and offers the ability to swipe bags with his speed, but isn’t likely to be a significant fantasy contributor in any other category.
  • OAK Relief Pitcher
Athletics optioned RHP Tyler Ferguson to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Ferguson was sent down after Monday’s game against the Rockies. The 30-year-old will head back to Triple-A for the time being, and the A’s will announce a corresponding transaction before Tuesday’s tilt with Colorado.
  • WAS Center Fielder #28
Lane Thomas (knee) is beginning a rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Harrisburg.
Thomas has been on the injured list since near the end of April due to a sprained left MCL. The outfielder will likely need a week or so of rehab appearances, but then could return to the Washington lineup near the end of May. Thomas got off to a slow start prior to the injury, but was a solid fantasy option in 2023.
  • LAD First Baseman #5
Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 and hit a grand slam Monday as the Dodgers down the Diamondbacks 6-4.
The Dodgers scored all of their runs in the third, an inning that also featured homers from Kiké Hernandez and Will Smith. Freeman’s slam was the sixth of his career. He actually went his first 10 seasons without one, but he’s been playing catchup after finally collecting his first in Sept. 2020.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #18
Yoshinobu Yamamoto yielded two runs in 6 1/3 innings and struck out eight in a win over the Diamondbacks on Monday.
Maybe he’s no Shota Imanaga, but Yamamoto improved to 5-1 with a 3.17 ERA with his latest quality start. He’s struck out 61 and walked just 11 in 54 innings, and his ERA would stand at 2.38 if one discarded his March 21 start in South Korea.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #41
Daniel Hudson pitched a perfect ninth for his third save Monday against the Diamondbacks.
Hudson fanned two of the three batters he faced against his former team. He’ll likely resume working in a setup role once Evan Phillips rejoins the Dodgers next week, but until then, he’s a worthy play in mixed leagues.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #43
After taking over for opener Joe Mantiply, Slade Cecconi gave up six runs in five innings Monday in a loss to the Dodgers.
Mantiply did his part in the first and Cecconi kept it going with a scoreless second, but he went on to five up three homers in the third inning. It was impressive how Cecconi rebounded with three scoreless innings afterwards, but the damage was done. Cecconi is now 1-4 with a 6.12 ERA, and his rotation spot appears to be in jeopardy.
  • ARI Center Fielder #31
Jake McCarthy went 2-for-4 and hit his second homer against the Dodgers on Monday.
McCarthy’s homer was hit 106.6 mph off Eliezer Hernández, edging out his previous season high. He’s off to a pretty encouraging start offensively, hitting .283/.357/.414 in 114 plate appearances. Unfortunately, he hasn’t delivered in the stolen base department, collecting just three in 40 games, and there just isn’t much reason to think he’ll remain a factor once Alek Thomas is healthy.
