  • TOR Starting Pitcher #16
Yusei Kikuchi struck out nine batters over six innings while allowing one earned run and picking up the win on Tuesday against the Yankees.
Kikuchi got off to a hot start, striking out the first three batters he faced on just 17 pitches. He would continue to dominate throughout the remainder of his outing, finishing the day with nine strikeouts while scattering four hits across six innings. His lone run allowed came in the second inning on a Jose Trevino single, but Kikuchi managed to tightrope out of danger with just the one run despite allowing two base runners in the inning. He’s now struck out nine batters in back-to-back games, and has lowered his ERA to 2.08 on the year. He’ll look to continue his solid start to the season on Monday when he takes on the Royals.
  • LAD Right Fielder #23
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters before Monday’s game that Jason Heyward still hasn’t been cleared for baseball activities.
To be more specific, Roberts said that he “doesn’t believe” Heyward has been cleared for activities, which is a little weird. Heyward will certainly need a rehab assignment before he’s ready to play, but that assignment may not come until next week at the earliest. There’s a good chance he’s not back with the Dodgers until closer to the end of May than the beginning.
  • MIA Shortstop #7
Tim Anderson left Monday’s game against the Nationals with a left thumb sprain.
Anderson collided with Alex Call on a tag and looked to be in a significant amount of pain. The Marlins are calling Anderson day-to-day, but don’t be surprised if the 31-year-old misses at least a game while he recovers.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #55
Dodgers placed Ryan Brasier on the 15-day injured list with a right calf strain.
Brasier has made 12 appearances for the Dodgers while composing a 4.68 ERA and 12/2 K/BB over 11 2/3 innings. Gus Varland will take Brasier’s place in the bullpen. The calf strain will keep Brasier out at least two weeks, with a chance for him to return in the middle of May if all goes well.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #79
Ian Gibaut (forearm) has been shut down from his rehab assignment.
It’s the second time that Gibaut has been shut down from his rehab, and this one comes after a cortisone shot. The right-hander will likely not be able to throw for at least a few days and there’s no timetable for when he’ll be able to join the Cincinnati bullpen.
  • OAK Third Baseman #5
J.D. Davis (groin) will remain on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas through at least Thursday.
If Davis checks out well over the next few days, the 31-year-old could be back in action over the weekend for the Athletics. The right-handed hitter has been out of action with a groin strain since April 16.
  • MIA Shortstop #7
Tim Anderson left Monday’s game against the Nationals with an apparent injury.
Anderson appeared to hurt his hand on a play that results in an Alex Call double. Anderson should be considered day-to-day for now, but Dane Myers has replaced the infielder, with Myers moving to the outfield and Vidal Brujan now in at shortstop.
  • OAK Starting Pitcher #30
Ken Waldichuk (elbow) threw a 25-pitch live bullpen session Monday.
Waldichuk has been on the injured list since the start of the season and isn’t eligible to return until May 27 since he was placed on the 60-day injured list. The left-hander will next throw a sim game, and if all goes well a rehab assignment will come next. He should be making starts for the Athletics by the start of June if there are no setbacks.
  • OAK Second Baseman #20
Zack Gelof (oblique) has been shut down from baseball activities.
That’s not good. Gelof was placed on the injured list with a left oblique strain Thursday, and it sounds like the 24-year-old won’t be ready to roll when he’s eligible to be activated in the early portion of May. Fantasy managers who are counting on Gelof should probably look elsewhere for a short-term — and potentially longer — replacement.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #23
Zac Gallen (hamstring) is throwing a bullpen before Monday’s game against the Dodgers.
Gallen left Friday’s start against the Mariners with a hamstring issue, but the exit was deemed precautionary, and manager Torey Lovullo expressed that he was optimistic that Gallen would make his next start. Assuming all goes well with the bullpen session, that seems to check out for Wednesday’s start against the Dodgers.
  • SEA Second Baseman #4
Josh Rojas is not in the starting lineup for Monday’s game against Atlanta.
Rojas is currently on a platoon with Luis Urias, and it’ll be Urias manning the hot corner with left-hander Max Fried on the bump for Atlanta. Seattle will also have Sam Haggerty in left field against the southpaw after recalling the versatile infielder/outfielder from Triple-A Tacoma.
