  • BOS Starting Pitcher #89
Tanner Houck struck out nine batters over nine scoreless innings in a complete game shutout win over the Guardians.
Houck was incredible Wednesday against the Guardians. He faced just two batters over the minimum, scattering three base hits with no walks. Houck had his slider working, generating 11 whiffs on the pitch and 19 total to strike out nine batters. The 27-year-old right-hander will look to build on the dominant performance when he takes a 1.35 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and a 28/2 K/BB ratio across 26 2/3 innings into a rematch against the Guardians in Cleveland next week.
  • DET Center Fielder #31
Riley Greene went 3-for-5 with a solo homer and two RBI to lead the Tigers to an 11-6 win over the Cardinals in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader.
Greene homered in both games of Tuesday’s twin bill at Comerica Park and is now up to seven round-trippers on the season.
  • STL Right Fielder #41
Alec Burleson went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer and four RBI in the Cardinals’ blowout loss to the Tigers in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader.
  • DET Second Baseman #46
Wenceel Pérez homered from both sides of the plate in the Tigers’ lopsided win over the Cardinals in the nightcap of Tuesday’s twin bill.
Pérez accomplished the extremely rare feat by taking southpaw Steven Matz deep in the second inning before homering off righty reliever Ryan Fernandez a couple frames later. It was his firs career multi-homer effort. The 24-year-old rookie infielder has held his own so far in a samll sample, batting .302 (13-for-43) with three homers and two steals in 15 games.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #25
Matt Manning gave up four runs over 4 2/3 innings on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #32
Steven Matz allowed four runs over 3 1/3 innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Tigers.
  • LAA Third Baseman #22
Miguel Sanó (knee) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Phillies.
Sanó will miss his fourth straight game due to ongoing left knee soreness. He’s day-to-day for now.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #72
Angels selected the contract of LHP Amir Garrett from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Garrett gets the call to join the Angels’ bullpen mix after pitching well in eight relief appearances for Triple-A Salt Lake. He figures to pitch in middle relief. The 31-year-old lefty made 27 appearances last year for Kansas City.
  • LAA Center Fielder #12
Angels signed OF Kevin Pillar to a one-year contract.
Pillar heads to Los Angeles with Mike Trout officially landing on the injured with a left knee meniscus tear. The 35-year-old veteran outfielder batted .160 (4-for-25) with one homer and two steals in 17 games this season for the White Sox before being designated for assignment last week.
  • LAA Center Fielder #27
Angels placed OF Mike Trout on the 10-day injured list with a left knee meniscus tear.
Trout is slated to undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. There isn’t a definitive timetable for his return yet, but the expectation is that he’ll return at some point later this season. It’s obviously a colossal loss for the Angels, and fantasy managers. The 32-year-old generational superstar was in the midst of an impressive renaissance campaign, posting a strong .867 OPS with a major league-leading 10 homers and six steals through 29 games. There should be some clarity on his potential return timeline at some point following the knee procedure.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #63
Angels transferred RHP Chase Silseth to the 60-day injured list.
Silseth has resumed throwing as he works his way back from right elbow inflammation, but is going to be on the shelf until at least early June.
