  • NYM Starting Pitcher #70
José Buttó took his first loss after giving up four runs in 5 2/3 innings Friday against the Cardinals.
Buttó allowed just four hits, but two of them were long homers that accounted for all of the runs. The three-run homer from Alec Burleson in the second scored baserunners who had reached on a HBP and a walk. Control was the concern with Butto going in. There’s still a lot to like here, but that he’s walked 12 and hit three batters in 22 innings is rather discouraging.
  • SD Second Baseman #7
Ha-Seong Kim is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Phillies.
It’s an extremely rare day off for Kim, who has started every game for San Diego since May 23. The 28-year-old is struggling a little bit over the last few weeks, batting .213 (10-for-47) with two homers and six steals over his last 15 contests. It’ll be Tyler Wade drawing a rare start at shortstop on Tuesday evening against the Phillies.
  • SD Right Fielder #23
Fernando Tatis Jr. is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Phillies.
It’s an extremely rare off day for Tatis, who has appeared in all 76 contests this season for San Diego. The 25-year-old corner outfielder has hit a bit of a frosty stretch over the last few days at the dish, batting .185 (5-for-27) with one homer and 10 strikeouts over his last seven games. He’ll get a quick breather to rest and recover before returning for Wednesday afternoon’s series finale.
  • TEX Right Fielder #53
Adolis García is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Mets.
It appears to be a routine off day for García, who has been struggling of late, batting .152 (17-for-112) with five homers and two steals, while also striking out 34 times, over his last 30 contests. It’s possible a mental break will help get things back on track.
  • TEX Shortstop #8
Josh Smith is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Mets.
Smith is back at designated hitter for Tuesday’s contest against the Mets after missing four straight games due to general soreness. It could be a few additional days before he’s ready to get back onto the field defensively, but it’s an encouraging development that the Rangers are able to get his bat back into the lineup. The 26-year-old infielder has been excellent this year, batting .294/.384/.436 with four homers and four steals across 243 plate appearances.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #68
Tigers signed RHP Eli Villalobos to a minor league contract.
Villalobos heads to Detroit as extra organizational relief depth after making three relief appearances earlier this year for the Marlins. The 26-year-old righty elected free agency earlier this month following his removal from Miami’s 40-man roster.
  • FA First Baseman #28
Pirates 1B Niko Goodrum elected free agency.
Goodrum will test the free agent waters after passing through waivers unclaimed following his removal last week from Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster. The 32-year-old journeyman didn’t appear in a game for the Pirates, but has gotten into 13 contests this season split between the Rays and Angels.
  • CIN Left Fielder #29
TJ Friedl (hamstring) is absent from the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Pirates.
No surprise here after Friedl was forced to leave Monday’s series opener with right hamstring tightness following a stellar defensive play in center field. The 28-year-old outfielder had started 17 consecutive contests since returning from the injured list back on May 29. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. There’s optimism he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list, but that could change if he’s not ready to return in a couple days.
  • PIT Shortstop #15
Oneil Cruz is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Reds.
Cruz, who has been dealing with a sore ankle over the last few days, will take a seat to open Tuesday’s contest with lefty Nick Lodolo toeing the rubber for Cincinnati. The 25-year-old shortstop boasts a .734 OPS with nine homers and five steals in 262 plate appearances over 64 games so far.
  • STL Third Baseman #28
Nolan Arenado is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Cardinals.
Arenado has not been at his best lately, and after going 0-for-6 in Monday’s extra-innings win over the Marlins, the Cardinals will give their third baseman a day off. Brandon Crawford is getting his first ever start at third base while Arenado rests.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #60
Rangers optioned RHP Cole Winn to Triple-A Round Rock.
Winn threw two innings Monday in the lopsided loss to the Mets and gave up a pair of runs. The former top prospect will return to Triple-A with Yerry Rodriguez called up to provide a fresh arm.
