  • MIA Relief Pitcher #73
Marlins designated RHP Kyle Tyler for assignment.
Tyler figures to draw some interest on waivers after pitching well on Friday night in his Marlins debut, allowing on run over two innings in relief against the Nationals. The 27-year-old righty will presumably stick around with Miami as extra relief depth, if he winds up clearing waivers.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #97
Yankees optioned RHP Ron Marinaccio to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Marinaccio draws the metaphorical short straw with Nick Burdi set to return from the injured list for Friday’s series opener against the Astros. The 28-year-old righty boasts a stellar 1.42 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 10/5 K/BB ratio across 12 2/3 innings (nine appearances) this season in the big leagues.
  • HOU Left Fielder #44
Yordan Alvarez went 2-for-5 with a solo homer on Thursday, powering the Astros to a 4-3 victory over the Yankees.
Alvarez kicked off the scoring in the opening frame by taking Yankees starter Marcus Stroman deep for his eighth round-tripper of the season. It was the first time he’s left the yard since a two-homer explosion back on April 27, snapping a nine-game homerless drought. The 26-year-old four-category fantasy superstar is batting .245/.325/.448 with 21 runs scored, eight homers and 19 RBI through 163 plate appearances.
  • NYY Right Fielder #99
Aaron Judge walloped a 473-foot solo homer on Thursday in the Yankees’ loss to the Astros.
Judge’s tape-measure shot to left-center field off Astros relief ace Ryan Pressly slashed New York’s deficit to just a single run in the eighth inning. The 32-year-old former AL MVP Award winner has started to heat up at the dish with three big flies in his last four contests. It’s going to take a while for his surface stats to fully recover from his frosty start, but he’s up to .236/.362/.493 with 19 runs scored, nine homers, 25 RBI and two steals through 175 plate appearances.
  • NYY Shortstop #11
Anthony Volpe went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer on Thursday in the Yankees’ loss to the Astros.
Volpe connected for a two-run opposite-field shot into the right-field corner off Astros starter Ronel Blanco in the third inning. It was his fifth round-tripper of the season and second time he’s left the yard in his last three contests. The 23-year-old shortstop has made an effort to flatten his swing and employ an all-fields approach this season, but is still hitting for some over-the-fence pop, while also significantly improving his batting average.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #71
Josh Hader recorded a four-out save on Thursday against the Yankees.
Hader came on to record the final out of the eighth inning before heading back out to spin a scoreless ninth inning to collect his fourth save of the season. The 30-year-old lefty has converted four of five save chances in his Astros debut so far to go along with a bloated 5.63 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 25/7 K/BB ratio across 16 innings (16 appearances). There’s zero reason for concern here moving forward as he continues to miss bats at an elite rate.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #56
Ronel Blanco allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings on Thursday in a win over the Yankees.
Blanco generated 13 swinging strikes, and finished with five strikeouts, but also battled control issues throghout this one, handing out four free passes as well. He managed to limit New York’s formidable lineup to just a two-run homer by Anthony Volpe into the middle innings, which was enough to hang on for his fourth win of the year. He’ll carry a sparkling 2.23 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 41/20 K/BB ratio across 44 1/3 innings (seven starts) into an extremely favorable matchup on Tuesday against the Athletics.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #0
Marcus Stroman was tagged for four runs over 5 2/3 innings on Thursday in a loss to the Astros.
Stroman coughed up a pair of first-inning homers and also served up a run-scoring single to Jeremy Peña in the fifth inning, which was enough to saddle him with a loss in a low-scoring affair at Yankee Stadium. He struck out five and also issued a pair of walks. He’ll bring a serviceable 3.80 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 40/22 K/BB ratio across 42 2/3 innings (eight starts) into a road matchup on Wednesday against the Twins.
  • OAK Relief Pitcher #19
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports the Athletics’s asking price for flame-throwing closer Mason Miller is steep.
Rosenthal adds that a team source indicates no team has come close to meeting Oakland’s astronomical asking price. The 25-year-old starter-turned-closer has been phenomenal this season, with a microscopic 1.10 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 33/4 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings (13 appearances). It’s entirely possible that no team will come close to coughing up enough prospect capital to make a deal happen, but Miller figures to be at the epicenter of rumors leading up to the trade deadline later this summer.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #54
Daniel Duarte underwent season-ending right elbow surgery on Tuesday.
Duarte is expected to be sidelined for 14-16 months after undergoing UCL revision reconstruction surgery. The 27-year-old righty has a shot at making it back during the later stages of the 2025 campaign.
  • CWS Center Fielder #88
Luis Robert Jr. (hip) has resumed hitting.
White Sox manager Pedro Grifol told reporters Thursday that Robert has gotten past the slight setback he experienced recently while rehabbing out in Arizona and isn’t far off from starting a minor league rehab assignment.
